The week of multispecies flourishing—a week of events hosted by the Multispecies Collective at the University of Birmingham—saw hundreds of researchers, academics, students, lawyers, policymakers, creatives and more flock to Birmingham to collaborate toward futures of flourishing for animals, nature and society.

University of Birmingham Hosts UK’s Largest Animal Law Conference. The conference featured a special address from Animal Welfare Minister, Baroness Sue Hayman of Ullock.

The Multispecies Collective, founded by Dr Iyan Offor, has relaunched at the University of Birmingham, bringing together researchers, practitioners and creatives committed to shaping futures where animals, ecosystems and human societies can flourish together.

This blog post follows a Research Dialogue between Dr Laura Mai (Amsterdam), Dr Veerle Platvoet (Heidelberg), Dr Iyan Offor (Birmingham), and the wider community of the Multispecies Collective. The Dialogue took place at Birmingham Law School and online on 11 February 2026. Our conversation explored how law encounters planetary and more-than-human temporalities, and what this means for law, governance, and legal scholarship.
