About the event

The inaugural Center for Animal Law Studies’ International Aquaculture Law & Policy Symposium in collaboration with co-hosts the Multispecies Collective and the Aquatic Life Institute (ALI)

About

The Symposium will bring together experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss critical issues and emerging trends in the rapidly evolving field of aquaculture law and policy. The one-day, in-person program features a series of panels centered on the protection of farmed aquatic animals, with experts sharing their insights on contemporary issues, such as:

  • Aquaculture: Animals, the Environment and Public Health: examining the animal welfare, climate change and public health impacts of industrial animal aquaculture.

  • Global Animal Aquaculture Law: providing an overview of the global aquaculture law and policy landscape, including regulatory frameworks, enforcement challenges, and opportunities for reform.

  • Emerging Issues in Animal Aquaculture: discussing recent developments and opportunities to challenge the rapidly evolving animal aquaculture industry.

  • Strategies for Advocacy: focusing on diverse strategies and successful efforts to advance meaningful change in the industry.

The day will conclude with a Call to Action session inviting attendees to work together to advance aquatic animal protection and address the many harms of industrial aquaculture.

The Symposium is conveniently scheduled alongside the Multispecies Collective PhD Workshop (June 2) and the UK Animal Law Conference (June 3-4) at the University of Birmingham, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with the broader animal law community in the UK.
